• what i listened to when i ran: lots of new pornographers, a couple of chuck arrington's, and a few belle and sebastians
• coments: got dropped off just as the national anthem was being sung. had enough time to tuck my iphone in my pocket and get my headphones on before it started. wow, was it crowded! i started running pretty fast because i felt like i needed to get ahead of all of these people in front of me. around mile 2, i went to wipe the sweat off my face with my shirt and felt like i was going to pass out. then i noticed my heart was pounding and i was sweating really, really hard. i slowed it down a little bit and toyed with the idea of quitting. then i saw my family cheering me on and decided to stick it out. i grabbed water at the stops after that, too, because it scared the hell out of me. i felt there were too many people my age to try to pass and tried to give it up. i saw my family for the 3rd pass and gave them all a hug, then started to race again. the clock said 54: something when i hit the finish line, but i didn't see where any results were being posted in the stadium. it took me a few to figure out how to get out of the stadium. then we all went out for breakfast and i made it to church just a couple of minutes late.
